Türkiye's Alfa Jet Receives First G550 Aircraft

Türkiye’s Alfa Jet Expands Fleet with First Gulfstream G550 Acquisition
Alfa Jet has officially incorporated its first Gulfstream G550 into its fleet, marking a notable development in Türkiye’s business aviation sector. The aircraft, registered as TC-JUN (msn 5133) and approximately 18 years old, is configured to accommodate up to 14 passengers. It commenced operations on August 9 with a roundtrip flight between Istanbul Atatürk Airport and Nevsehir, signaling the company’s commitment to expanding its service capabilities.
Fleet Composition and Market Position
This latest addition complements Alfa Jet’s existing fleet, which currently includes a 25-year-old Gulfstream GIV-SP and a 2006-built Hawker 850XP. While the company has indicated intentions to further grow its fleet, specific plans and timelines have not been disclosed. With the G550, Alfa Jet becomes the third Turkish operator to utilize this model, joining Körfez Havacilik and Zafer Air, each of which operates a single G550. Additionally, Turkish Airlines General Aviation manages three G550s on behalf of the Government of Türkiye. Notably, no other Gulfstream GV-based aircraft are presently active within the country.
The newly acquired G550 previously served in the United States under Journey Aviation, registered as N770AW. Based at Teterboro, the aircraft remained active with Journey Aviation until early May before being ferried to Istanbul Atatürk via a stopover in Mykonos. Journey Aviation’s Part 135-certified fleet is predominantly composed of Gulfstream jets, including various models such as the G200, GIV, GIV-SP, GV, and G550, alongside other aircraft like the Falcon 2000, Praetor 600, and a Sikorsky S-76B helicopter.
Implications for Türkiye’s Business Aviation Sector
The integration of the G550 into Alfa Jet’s operations presents both opportunities and challenges. The advanced technology and capabilities of the G550 will necessitate adjustments in maintenance procedures and crew training to maintain operational reliability and service quality. This strategic move is anticipated to stimulate greater interest in business aviation within Türkiye, aligning with recent industry trends. Market confidence reports, including those from the International Aircraft Dealers Association (IADA), reflect growing optimism in the sector, suggesting that Alfa Jet’s fleet expansion may contribute positively to this momentum.
The acquisition may also prompt competitors in the region to enhance their own fleets, potentially intensifying competition and fostering innovation within Türkiye’s business aviation market. As Alfa Jet positions itself with the addition of the G550, the sector appears poised for increased dynamism and growth in the near future.
