KCAC Aviation Expands Maintenance Operations with New Hangar
KCAC Aviation has inaugurated a new 30,000-square-foot maintenance hangar at Johnson County Executive Airport (KOJC), effectively doubling its service capacity. This expansion significantly enhances the company’s ability to support the growing fleet of Pilatus and Piper aircraft within its sales region. The development arrives amid a surge in activity across the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector, where competitors are similarly scaling up their operations to meet increasing demand.
Enhancing Efficiency and Capacity
Preston Estes, director of maintenance at KCAC Aviation, emphasized the operational benefits of the new facility, stating that the additional dedicated hangar provides the team with the necessary space and resources to conduct inspections and overhauls more efficiently. This improvement is expected to streamline workflow and reduce aircraft downtime, thereby delivering better service to customers.
The official opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 13, 2025, attended by county officials, airport commissioners, industry partners, customers, and KCAC personnel. General Manager Tony Mateer, accompanied by KCAC’s A&P maintenance technicians, led the event. Mateer described the hangar as more than just additional space, highlighting it as a strategic investment in the company’s workforce, clientele, and future growth. He underscored the facility’s role in enabling KCAC to support Pilatus and Piper owners with greater efficiency while upholding rigorous standards of quality and safety.
Positioning Amidst Industry Growth and Competition
KCAC’s expansion coincides with a period of robust growth and record profitability in the global MRO market. This strategic move positions the company to better compete with major industry players such as DAE and Joramco, both of which are also expanding their facilities to capture a larger market share. The competitive landscape is further evolving as companies like KlasJet extend charter services into Asia and Elevate Jet obtain certification to operate VIP airliners, reflecting heightened competition and innovation within the aviation sector.
The new hangar not only enhances KCAC’s operational capabilities and customer service but also reaffirms the company’s commitment to maintaining high standards in a rapidly changing and competitive environment. As the MRO sector continues to attract significant industry attention and investment, KCAC’s latest expansion exemplifies the opportunities and challenges confronting aviation service providers today.
