Agility in the Skies: How Strike Aviation Is Powering High-Value Air Freight
Lithuania’s Emergence as a Strategic Logistics Hub
Lithuania, once a relatively obscure player in the global air freight industry, is swiftly establishing itself as a pivotal logistics hub within Europe. The country’s airports have successfully integrated into the international supply chain by capitalizing on modern infrastructure, operational agility, and expanding partnerships with global cargo operators. This progress is underscored by a 10% increase in cargo traffic in 2024, highlighting Lithuania’s growing significance in the sector.
Central to this transformation is Strike Aviation LT, a General Sales and Services Agent (GSSA) responsible for managing airline representation and cargo operations across the Baltic States. Since its inception in 1997, Strike Aviation has broadened its reach to encompass markets in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Andrius Antanaitis, Director of Business Development for Europe at Strike Aviation, reflects on the sector’s recent challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical disruptions. He emphasizes that the company’s resilience stems from its flexibility and strategic geographic diversification, enabling it to navigate market volatility while continuing to expand.
Antanaitis anticipates sustained growth in air cargo throughout 2025 across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, reinforcing the Baltic region’s integral role in the global logistics network. Strike Aviation’s operations in Vilnius, Riga, and Tallinn underpin this momentum by delivering advanced cargo solutions, expedited services, and adaptable coordination with airlines and local freight forwarders. He stresses that success in this competitive market hinges on speed, adaptability, and a customer-centric approach to meet the evolving demands of diverse clients.
New Opportunities and Emerging Challenges
A significant driver of growth in the Baltic air freight sector is the expansion of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services. As maintenance facilities in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia attract international investment, the demand for specialized air freight—particularly aircraft parts and sophisticated technical equipment—is increasing. Antanaitis notes that Strike Aviation’s expertise in handling special cargo positions the company well to support the MRO industry by coordinating the supply of spare parts and managing the urgent transport of critical components between airport maintenance centers.
Nevertheless, the sector faces mounting pressures. Industry reports highlight rising operational costs, ongoing supply chain disruptions, and weakening demand as key challenges confronting air cargo operators. The competitive environment is intensifying, with major manufacturers such as Airbus and Boeing shifting their focus toward high-value air freight services. This shift is occurring amid reductions in funding for sustainable aviation projects, compelling companies to adapt swiftly and pursue opportunities in specialized and high-value cargo segments.
Navigating Policy and Market Dynamics
The air freight industry is also contending with significant policy changes, notably the trade tariffs introduced by U.S. President Donald Trump in 2025. These higher import duties on European goods threaten to curtail export volumes to the United States, potentially diminishing transatlantic air cargo demand and undermining the competitiveness of Baltic exporters. Antanaitis acknowledges the pressure to respond rapidly as businesses and buyers may seek alternative trading partners in light of increased costs and shifting market conditions.
Despite these challenges, Strike Aviation remains steadfast in its commitment to agility and innovation. The company continues to position itself—and the broader Baltic region—as a resilient and forward-looking force within the high-value air freight sector.
