HAECO Engine Services Expands Overhaul Capacity with New Xiamen Facility
HAECO Engine Services (Xiamen), a subsidiary of the HAECO Group specializing in the overhaul, testing, and component repair of GE90 series engines, has initiated construction of a new facility in Xiamen. Scheduled for completion by late 2026, this expansion is designed to significantly increase the company’s capacity and extend its service offerings to include additional engine types such as the GP7200, CF34-10A, and GE9X. The new premises will also provide enhanced space for maintenance and storage operations, reflecting HAECO’s strategic commitment to supporting a broader range of aviation clients.
Facility Design and Sustainability Initiatives
The forthcoming building will be situated adjacent to HAECO’s existing Phase 2 facility and will cover 4,420 square meters, with a total floor area of 10,015 square meters spread over two levels. Sustainability is a central element of the project, with plans to incorporate energy-efficient LED lighting and a solar panel system aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of the operations. This approach aligns with the company’s broader goals of innovation and sustainable development within the aerospace sector.
Sandra Nieuwenhuijzen, group director of Component and Engine Services at HAECO, emphasized the significance of the expansion, stating, “As the aerospace industry continues to grow and evolve, this facility reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainable development, enabling us to scale up support for our customers across a diverse range of product lines.” She further noted that the investment represents a long-term vision to meet the evolving demands of the global aviation industry through cutting-edge solutions and operational excellence.
Strategic Growth and Industry Context
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Simon Smith, Director and General Manager of HAECO Engine Services (Xiamen), highlighted the company’s adaptability since its establishment in 2008 and the successful completion of its Phase 2 building in 2011. Smith remarked, “The new facility will enhance our capacity and enable us to develop capabilities for both current and next-generation engines,” underscoring the company’s forward-looking strategy.
HAECO Engine Services (Xiamen) holds a licensed GE90 Service Provider status and maintains the GE90 GE Branded Service Agreement (GBSA) in Asia. In 2024, the company extended the GBSA and Offload Agreement for GE engines through 2040, securing a pivotal role within the global maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) network for the GE9X engine.
This expansion occurs amid intensifying competition in the engine MRO sector. Established firms such as Thermo Fisher Scientific, alongside specialized operators like Pem-Air, are expected to closely observe HAECO’s cost management and operational efficiency as it scales up. Industry analysts anticipate that competitors may respond by expanding their own capacities or enhancing service offerings to protect market share, thereby increasing pressure on HAECO to fulfill its commitments to innovation and operational excellence.
Despite these competitive challenges, HAECO’s investment signals strong confidence in the long-term growth prospects of the aviation industry and its capacity to meet evolving customer requirements through advanced and sustainable solutions.
