Skyportz and FlyNow Partner to Develop Integrated Vertipad Solutions for Urban Air Mobility

Skyportz and FlyNow Collaborate on Integrated Vertipad Solutions for Urban Air Mobility
Skyportz and FlyNow Aviation have announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop integrated vertipad solutions specifically designed for FlyNow’s eCopter, a compact, low-noise electric air taxi intended for urban cargo and passenger transport. This collaboration positions FlyNow as the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to engage directly with Skyportz and its research partner, Swinburne University, in customizing vertipad designs to meet the unique specifications of their aircraft.
Advancing Urban Air Mobility Infrastructure
This partnership marks a significant milestone in Skyportz’s broader strategy to establish OEM-specific alliances aimed at accelerating the deployment of urban air mobility (UAM) infrastructure. By providing a turnkey landing pad system tailored to FlyNow’s aircraft, the companies seek to address one of the sector’s critical challenges: the lack of ready-to-use vertiport infrastructure in urban and suburban settings. The co-developed vertipad system will incorporate customized pad dimensions, load capacities, and markings aligned with FlyNow’s operational requirements. Additionally, it will feature enhanced downwash and outwash management technologies, enabling installation on smaller sites, alongside a modular, flat-pack design to facilitate efficient transport and rapid assembly.
Skyportz, known for its innovative vertiport development solutions—including patented technologies for downwash mitigation and fire safety—views this collaboration as a blueprint for future partnerships with other OEMs. FlyNow’s lightweight, zero-emission eCopter is designed to make urban air travel and logistics more accessible and scalable, complementing the infrastructure advancements enabled by this joint effort.
Industry Perspectives and Market Challenges
Clem Newton-Brown OAM, CEO of Skyportz, emphasized the partnership’s operational focus, stating, “Our goal is to make it as simple as possible for operators to get into the air and start servicing communities. By working with FlyNow and our research team on a bespoke landing pad package, we’re delivering a turnkey solution that meets regulatory requirements, operational needs, and property integration from day one.”
Echoing this sentiment, Jürgen Greil, CEO of FlyNow Aviation, highlighted the importance of integrated solutions for market adoption: “The future of advanced air mobility depends on the seamless integration of aircraft and infrastructure. With this partnership, we can offer our customers not just an aircraft, but the landing site infrastructure they need to get started immediately—accelerating adoption and giving early fleet operators a competitive advantage.”
Despite the promise of this collaboration, the urban air mobility sector continues to face significant challenges. Regulatory frameworks remain under development worldwide, with authorities working to establish standards for vertiport safety, airspace integration, and community acceptance. Furthermore, Skyportz and FlyNow will encounter competition from established vertiport developers such as Wisk and Signature Aviation, alongside broader market skepticism regarding the viability and scalability of UAM solutions.
Competitors are intensifying their efforts, with companies like Lilium and Vertical advancing hybrid electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) technologies and forging strategic partnerships. Others, including Joby and L3Harris, are exploring defense applications to diversify their market presence.
As the race to establish urban air mobility networks accelerates, the Skyportz-FlyNow partnership highlights the critical role of integrated infrastructure solutions. Their collaborative approach aims to streamline market entry for operators and set a precedent for future OEM collaborations in this rapidly evolving industry.
