Cebu Pacific to Wet Lease Airbus A320neo to Vietnam Airlines Amid Rising Regional Demand
Cebu Pacific has entered into a wet lease agreement with Vietnam Airlines, deploying one of its Airbus A320neo aircraft to support the Vietnamese carrier’s domestic operations from July 15 to September 7, 2026. The aircraft, equipped with Pratt & Whitney engines, will be based in Ho Chi Minh City and operated by Cebu Pacific’s own pilots and cabin crew. It will serve key domestic routes linking Ho Chi Minh City with Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Vinh, and Da Nang.
Strategic Collaboration in a Growing Market
This partnership emerges amid a surge in air travel demand across Vietnam and Southeast Asia, prompting airlines to collaborate on capacity management rather than compete aggressively. Mark Cezar, Chief Financial Officer of Cebu Pacific, highlighted that the airline’s expanding fleet enables it to allocate aircraft efficiently, particularly during slower travel periods in the Philippines. He emphasized that the collaboration allows Cebu Pacific to extend its role beyond passenger services by providing operational support to regional carriers. Furthermore, Cezar noted that the agreement diversifies Cebu Pacific’s revenue streams and enhances its footprint in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.
The arrangement also reflects broader industry trends, as airlines contend with rising operating costs, geopolitical uncertainties, and increasing sustainability demands. In response, carriers are increasingly pursuing strategic partnerships and flexible leasing arrangements to optimize resources and mitigate risks. This trend has been evident in market consolidation among major European aviation groups, alongside ambitious initiatives to adopt greener fuels and address environmental challenges.
Cebu Pacific’s Expanding Fleet and Leasing Strategy
The wet lease agreement with Vietnam Airlines follows a series of similar partnerships by Cebu Pacific. In 2023, the airline entered a damp lease deal with Bulgaria Air for two A320ceo aircraft to meet heightened travel demand in the Philippines during the post-pandemic recovery. In 2025, Cebu Pacific wet-leased two A320s to Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier flyadeal to support peak summer operations.
These leasing arrangements are supported by Cebu Pacific’s rapidly growing fleet, which now totals 100 aircraft—the youngest jet fleet in the Philippines—comprising Airbus A320, A321, A330, and ATR models. The airline operates 35 domestic and 26 international destinations from hubs in Manila, Cebu, Clark, Iloilo, and Davao, serving markets across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
In 2024, Cebu Pacific signed a landmark purchase agreement with Airbus and Pratt & Whitney for up to 152 A321neo aircraft equipped with GTF engines, with a minimum commitment of 70 aircraft. Valued at approximately $24 billion at list prices, this deal represents the largest aircraft purchase in Philippine aviation history and positions Cebu Pacific to respond agilely to evolving market dynamics and industry challenges.
