The project is expected to play a crucial role in Alatau’s smart transport system and is anticipated to attract international investment to the new city. The introduction of eVTOL air taxis is seen as a significant step toward modernising urban mobility in the region. Commercial Operations and Future Expansion Initial operations will focus on commercial air taxi services, with the expectation that costs will decline as the fleet grows, additional vertiports are constructed, and flight frequency increases. Uteulin noted that the long-term objective is to reduce fares to levels comparable with premium ground taxi services. The project will utilise existing pilots trained in helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft operations, with manufacturers providing the necessary initial training for eVTOL-specific skills. The first commercial flights are anticipated to commence in late 2028 or early 2029, initially connecting Alatau with Almaty and popular tourist destinations within the Almaty region. Plans are in place to expand the service nationwide in the subsequent years.
