ATM 2026 to Focus on Growth in Middle East Aviation and Cruise Sectors
Middle East Aviation Set for Significant Expansion
The Middle East’s aviation and cruise industries are poised for substantial global growth, reinforcing the region’s status as a key international travel hub. This momentum will be a central theme at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2026, scheduled to take place from 4th to 7th May at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
The ATM Travel Trends Report 2025, developed in collaboration with Tourism Economics, forecasts a 23 percent increase in air passenger demand across the Middle East between 2025 and 2030. This surge is driven by ambitious national tourism strategies, record-breaking airport performance, and considerable aircraft investments throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Middle Eastern airlines currently account for 12 percent of all new unfilled aircraft orders worldwide, with GCC carriers representing 93 percent of these commitments.
Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director Middle East at Arabian Travel Market, emphasized the region’s strategic connectivity, noting that Middle Eastern carriers link hundreds of destinations across six continents. This extensive network is accelerating tourism growth, enhancing trade corridors, promoting business events, and fostering cultural exchange.
Addressing Industry Challenges and Technological Advances
ATM 2026 will also confront emerging challenges within the aviation sector, including regional workforce shortages and the increasing demand for advanced engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities. These issues are influencing market dynamics, prompting major manufacturers such as Airbus and Boeing to consider ramping up production rates and adjusting future aircraft strategies to meet growing demand.
Competitor strategies are evolving in response to these trends. Embraer is focusing on sales of its E2 jets rather than launching new airliner programs, while ATR is targeting growth among regional airlines in the Asia-Pacific market. Additionally, Elektra Solar is expanding its presence in electric training aircraft, recently establishing a subsidiary in China to access emerging markets.
The aviation outlook will be examined in detail during ATM’s “Aviation Predictions 2030: Networks, Fleet Futures & the Future of Mobility” session on the Global Stage. Discussions will also address inflation, geopolitical challenges, and the expanding Asia-GCC travel corridor. The Future Stage will feature sessions on artificial intelligence, biometrics, and next-generation aircraft technologies, highlighting their transformative impact on the passenger experience.
Cruise Industry Growth and Industry Engagement at ATM 2026
The cruise sector is experiencing a parallel upward trajectory. The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) projects global cruise passenger numbers to rise to 42 million by 2028, up from 34.6 million in 2024. ATM 2026 will provide a platform for in-depth analysis of the cruise industry through sessions such as “Cruising Insight: Ripple Effects of the Blue Economy” and the “Cruise Leaders: Putting Cruise on the Map” roundtable. These discussions will feature insights from leading organizations including Oxford Economics, Ayan Consulting, Celestyal Cruises, Inchcape Shipping Services, and TUI Cruises.
With over 55,000 travel professionals and 2,800 exhibiting companies from 166 countries expected to attend, ATM 2026 will explore the future of travel under the theme “Travel 2040: Driving New Frontiers Through Innovation and Technology.” The event will spotlight the trends and innovations shaping the next era of the global travel industry.
