Wisk Aero is developing electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft—compact, battery-powered vehicles capable of vertical takeoff and landing like helicopters, but designed to fly like airplanes. The company envisions a future where these autonomous air taxis operate on-demand, remotely monitored from a centralized fleet operations center, providing rapid transit options across the region. The MOU, approved by the Fullerton City Council for a one-year term, is nonbinding and does not grant Wisk operational authority at the airport. Instead, it establishes a framework for collaboration focused on exchanging technical information and assessing the feasibility of constructing a dedicated vertiport to support air taxi operations. Notably, the agreement does not involve financial incentives or payments to the city. Notably, a pilot program initiated during the Trump administration aims to establish safety and certification standards for electric flying taxis.
