Çelebi Aviation launches new AI to spot apron safety risks in under 60 seconds

Çelebi Aviation Introduces AI System for Enhanced Apron Safety
Çelebi Aviation has unveiled “CompliAI,” an artificial intelligence-driven safety compliance system designed to transform real-time monitoring and risk management on airport aprons. Developed collaboratively by Çelebi’s Global Quality and IT teams, the system employs AI alongside GPS-based analytics to deliver immediate oversight and proactive safety management in ground handling operations.
Rapid Detection and Real-Time Alerts
A pilot program conducted at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport demonstrated CompliAI’s capacity to identify incidents and near-misses in under 60 seconds, markedly improving the speed and accuracy of safety responses. The system integrates a comprehensive network of cameras and sensors to continuously monitor adherence to critical safety protocols, including equipment positioning, vehicle movements, and marshalling procedures. Upon detecting potential hazards or non-compliance, CompliAI promptly issues alerts to operational teams, facilitating swift corrective measures and reinforcing a robust safety culture.
Global Expansion and Future Developments
Following the successful trial in Budapest, Çelebi Aviation is preparing to deploy CompliAI across its global network, which spans three continents. The forthcoming development phase aims to enhance the system’s functionality by incorporating ground handling service level agreement (SLA) metrics and additional operational indicators. This expansion will be supported by a centralized rules library and dedicated on-site teams to ensure seamless implementation and ongoing system refinement.
Dave Dorner, Group CEO of Çelebi Aviation, emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative, stating, “This project underscores Çelebi Aviation’s commitment to innovation, safety, and operational excellence. By analyzing real-time data, we’re able to identify risks more quickly, implement preventive measures more effectively, and protect our employees and customers like never before. This is not just an investment in technology but in the future of our industry.”
Challenges and Industry Context
Despite its promising capabilities, the deployment of CompliAI faces several challenges. Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, integrating the system with existing airport infrastructure, and maintaining AI accuracy through continuous updates will be essential for its sustained effectiveness. Industry experts acknowledge the potential efficiency and safety benefits but remain cautious about the reliability of AI-driven solutions in complex operational environments.
Competitors are anticipated to accelerate their own AI initiatives or enhance existing safety technologies in response to Çelebi’s innovation. The broader aviation sector is increasingly embracing artificial intelligence for safety improvements, as evidenced by recent advancements from companies such as Polaris Aero, which has incorporated AI into its safety platforms.
Through CompliAI, Çelebi Aviation reaffirms its leadership in leveraging advanced technologies to elevate safety, operational performance, and sustainability in ground handling worldwide.
