Building on this foundation, Morocco is now targeting the emerging market for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, commonly known as air taxis, aiming to secure a prominent role through international collaboration.
Strategic Collaboration with Spain and the United Kingdom
The Moroccan government is actively pursuing a partnership with Spain and the United Kingdom to develop and manufacture air taxis, capitalizing on the expertise of key players from both countries. Central to this initiative is British firm Vertical Aerospace, recognized for its design and production of zero-emission eVTOL aircraft, and Spanish company Aciturri Aerostructures, a major supplier to aerospace giants including Boeing, Rolls-Royce, and Airbus. Vertical Aerospace is seeking a strategic agreement with Aciturri to produce structural components for its VX4 eVTOL model.
Under the proposed arrangement, Aciturri would be responsible for the design, supply, and engineering of all structural elements critical to the VX4. This aircraft is designed to accommodate four passengers and a pilot, boasting a range exceeding 150 kilometers and a cruising speed of 240 kilometers per hour. Spain has already announced plans to launch air taxi services, with potential routes connecting cities such as Malaga, Marbella, Ronda, Ceuta, and Melilla.
