Jackson Square Aviation Chooses CFM LEAP-1A Engines for Up to 30 Airbus A320neos

Jackson Square Aviation Selects CFM LEAP-1A Engines for Airbus A320neo Fleet
Jackson Square Aviation (JSA) has confirmed its decision to equip up to 30 Airbus A320neo family aircraft with CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines. This marks the first occasion on which JSA has chosen LEAP engines for its A320neo fleet, reinforcing the lessor’s longstanding relationships with both Airbus and CFM. The announcement forms part of JSA’s previously disclosed Airbus order and reflects the company’s strategic focus on providing airlines with modern, fuel-efficient aircraft alongside long-term fleet solutions.
Currently, JSA owns, manages, or holds commitments for 344 aircraft, serving 64 airlines across 34 countries. CFM International emphasized that the LEAP-1A engine was selected for its superior fuel efficiency, reliability, and reduced emissions—attributes that are increasingly critical amid growing demand for next-generation narrowbody aircraft.
Industry Context and Challenges
JSA’s engine selection comes at a time when the aviation sector is grappling with significant supply chain and operational challenges. The rising popularity of the Airbus A320neo has resulted in extended engine waitlists and delivery constraints, complicating efforts to ramp up narrowbody production. These pressures have intensified competition among lessors and airlines for advanced engine technologies. For instance, competitors such as Expeditor have responded by diversifying their fleets with investments spanning both Boeing and Airbus platforms.
Industry analysts suggest that JSA’s commitment to the LEAP-1A may prompt similar moves by rival lessors, potentially heightening competition for a limited supply of engines. The sector is also facing certification delays and widespread maintenance bottlenecks, issues recently highlighted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). These challenges threaten to disrupt operational efficiency and maintenance schedules for both lessors and airlines.
Despite these obstacles, JSA’s choice of the LEAP-1A engine underscores its dedication to sustainability and operational excellence, positioning the company to address the evolving needs of airlines within a dynamic and competitive market environment.
