Luxair Chooses RECARO R2 Seats for Embraer Fleet Upgrade

Luxair Selects RECARO R2 Seats for Embraer Fleet Upgrade
Luxair has announced its decision to equip its Embraer fleet with the RECARO R2 seat, sourced from the Embraer Seller Furnished Equipment (SFE) catalogue. This marks a significant development as Luxair becomes the first airline to select a RECARO seat through the collaborative RECARO–Embraer SFE offering. The move not only signifies RECARO’s formal entry into the SFE market but also introduces new competition into a sector that has been dominated by a single supplier for more than twenty years.
Partnership and Product Features
Since 2023, Embraer and RECARO have worked together to expand the SFE catalogue for the E1 and E2 aircraft models, providing both R1 and R2 seat options with a range of customizable features. Luxair’s choice of the R2 seat represents the initial market launch of this partnership and may influence future seating selections within the aviation industry. The introduction of RECARO into this space is expected to prompt established competitors to enhance their product offerings, potentially fostering innovation and increasing options for airlines.
Luxair’s selection was driven by RECARO’s strong reputation for quality, comfort, and brand appeal, alongside the availability of advanced features. The R2 seat will be fitted with Astronics’ latest in-seat power supply system (ISPSS), specifically the Ultralite Generation 2 USB-C 60W model. Luxair has opted for the R2 comfort package, which includes a six-way adjustable headrest with integrated neck support, enhanced cushioning, and a tablet holder, all designed to improve passenger comfort and convenience.
Delivery and Industry Impact
The aircraft outfitted with the new seats are scheduled for delivery in November 2025, with entry into service anticipated by December 2025. Fernando Antonio Oliveira, Vice President of Programmes at Embraer Commercial Aviation, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “RECARO Aircraft Seating adds more choice for our customers and reinforces our commitment to enhancing the passenger experience while delivering value to airlines. The RECARO seats look great in our cabins, bring additional options and low weight for our airline customers, and more comfort and amenities for their passengers.”
Luxair’s adoption of the RECARO R2 seat is expected to draw considerable attention from industry stakeholders and competitors alike. This decision may influence future seating choices and encourage other suppliers to innovate, signaling a shift toward increased competition and greater choice in the aircraft seating market. Such developments hold the potential to benefit both airlines and passengers through improved comfort, technology, and customization.
