National Airlines Commits to GE90, CF6 Engines for Boeing Freighters

National Airlines Expands Commitment to GE Aerospace Engines for Boeing Freighters
Strengthening Cargo Operations with GE90 and CF6 Engines
GE Aerospace has announced that National Airlines will acquire one GE90-110B and six CF6-80C2 engines to power its Boeing 777F and 747F freighter aircraft. This latest commitment builds on National Airlines’ existing relationship with GE Aerospace, as the carrier already operates thirty CF6 engines and eight GE90 engines across its fleet. Mohamed Ali, President and CEO of GE Aerospace Commercial Engines & Services, emphasized the significance of this continued partnership, noting that the additional engines will support National Airlines in meeting the rising demand for air cargo services. He highlighted the airline’s confidence in the performance and reliability of these engine-aircraft combinations.
The GE90 engine family is the exclusive powerplant for all Boeing 777 models, including the 777-300ER, 777-200LR, and the freighter variant. The GE90 is renowned for its technological innovations, featuring carbon fiber composite front fan blades and the world’s largest front fan, measuring 128 inches in diameter. It also holds the world record for thrust, achieving 127,900 pounds during certification testing.
National Airlines’ Strategic Focus on Reliability and Performance
Chris Alf, Chairman of National Airlines, underscored the importance of reliability, performance, and consistency in successful air cargo operations. He explained that the airline’s freighter fleet has been built around GE Aerospace engine technology to ensure operational strength and flexibility. The addition of the new CF6 and GE90 engines is expected to enhance the airline’s capacity and resilience, enabling it to meet evolving customer requirements over the long term.
The CF6 turbofan engine, which powers nearly 70% of the world’s widebody cargo aircraft, has a legacy spanning more than five decades. Its continuous technological advancements have established a reputation for dependability and durability, contributing to an efficient fleet with on-time arrivals and reduced maintenance costs.
