Xen Aviation Delivers First Islander Aircraft to Guyana

Xen Aviation Introduces First BN2T-4S Islander Aircraft to Guyana
Britten-Norman has delivered a BN2T-4S Islander aircraft to Xen Aviation & Services Inc., marking a pivotal development as the operator prepares to commence regional commuter services within Guyana. This aircraft, manufactured at Britten-Norman’s UK facility, represents the first BN2T-4S Islander to enter service in the country and will be deployed on routes originating from Georgetown.
Advanced Capabilities and Design
The BN2T-4S is an enlarged turboprop variant of the iconic Islander, featuring approximately 30% more cabin space and a maximum take-off weight of 8,925 pounds (4,408 kilograms). It is powered by twin Rolls-Royce 250-B17F engines, which provide enhanced performance while preserving the Islander’s renowned short take-off and landing (STOL) capabilities. The aircraft’s robust design is specifically suited for reliable operations from short, challenging, and infrastructure-limited airstrips—conditions commonly encountered across Guyana and the broader Caribbean region.
Equipped with a modern Garmin glass cockpit and an integrated avionics suite, the BN2T-4S significantly improves situational awareness and operational safety. Optional full airframe de-icing capabilities further extend its operational range in demanding and variable climatic conditions. The aircraft holds certification in the UK, EU, US, Canada, and Guyana, and is approved to carry up to ten passengers, subject to local regulatory requirements.
Operational Challenges and Market Outlook
As Xen Aviation integrates the Islander into its fleet, the company must navigate Guyana’s regulatory framework and ensure the aircraft’s short-field performance aligns with the unique demands of local airstrips. Additionally, the operator will face competition from established regional airlines, which may respond by upgrading their fleets or expanding service offerings to maintain market share.
Market analysts anticipate a positive reception to Xen Aviation’s entry, driven by growing demand for regional commuter services in Guyana. Recent data indicates robust interest in business aviation throughout the region, a trend that could indirectly support Xen Aviation’s operations by enhancing connectivity and expanding service options.
Britten-Norman remains committed to supporting operators globally by delivering aircraft that meet current operational standards and providing original equipment manufacturer (OEM) engineering, certification, and through-life support. The introduction of the BN2T-4S Islander in Guyana highlights both the aircraft’s enduring versatility and the dynamic evolution of regional aviation within the country.
