Air taxi takes first flight in Astana

Air Taxi Makes Inaugural Flight in Astana
A significant milestone in urban air mobility was achieved in Astana with the first demonstration flight of an air taxi, held at the Kazanat Hippodrome as part of the Games of the Future 2026. The event was organized by Kazakhstan’s Alatau Advance Air Group Ltd. (AAAG) in collaboration with Chinese electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) manufacturer AutoFlight. The flight showcased the AutoFlight Prosperity, an advanced eVTOL aircraft engineered to carry one pilot and up to five passengers.
Innovative Technology and Environmental Benefits
The AutoFlight Prosperity boasts a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour and a range of 200 kilometers. It is powered by 13 electric motors, which contribute to significantly reduced noise levels compared to conventional aircraft, while producing zero direct carbon dioxide emissions. The demonstration flight was conducted without passengers, adhering strictly to international safety standards for inaugural public flights of new aircraft.
Sergey Khegay, Chief Executive Officer of Alatau Advance Air Group Ltd., emphasized that the flight in Astana represents more than a single event. He described it as part of a broader, systematic initiative to integrate Urban Air Mobility into Kazakhstan’s transportation infrastructure. “Our goal is to make innovative air transport an integral part of Kazakhstan’s transportation system,” Khegay stated.
Legislative Support and Future Exhibitions
The project has received formal legislative support following amendments signed into law by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in June. These amendments establish a comprehensive legal framework for eVTOL aircraft, vertiports, and unmanned traffic management systems, laying the groundwork for the development of air taxi services in Kazakhstan.
Looking ahead, the AutoFlight Prosperity will be exhibited outside Barys Arena on July 29-30 during the Games of the Future 2026, providing visitors with an opportunity to view the aircraft up close. This demonstration follows earlier reports by Qazinform News Agency confirming Kazakhstan’s adoption of regulations governing air taxis, eVTOL aircraft, and unmanned aviation, signaling the country’s commitment to advancing this emerging sector.
