flyadeal Selects Geven and Jiatai Seats for New Two-Class A330 Fleet
flyadeal, Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing low-cost carrier, has confirmed the selection of European and Asian seat manufacturers Geven and Jiatai to equip its forthcoming two-class Airbus A330-900neo fleet. The airline is preparing to receive 10 new widebody aircraft, with the first expected to enter service in 2027.
Cabin Configuration and Features
The new A330s will feature a dual-cabin layout, comprising 14 Premium Economy seats and 406 Economy seats. Designed with long-haul comfort as a priority, the interiors will include ergonomic, reclinable seating with enhanced lumbar support, adjustable headrests, in-seat USB Type-C charging ports, and ambient lighting to improve the passenger experience.
Italian manufacturer Geven will supply its Comoda AQ seats for the Premium Economy cabin. These seats will be arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration across two rows, offering a 38-inch pitch and an 8-inch recline. This design aims to maximize personal space and comfort for medium- and long-haul flights. Meanwhile, Chinese seat maker Jiatai will make its Middle East market debut by providing customized Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 layout, with each row offering up to 30 inches of pitch.
Strategic Implications and Industry Context
flyadeal’s A330 fleet, capable of flights exceeding 11 hours, is expected to serve routes connecting Saudi Arabia with destinations across Asia, Europe, and Africa. The airline’s decision to source seats internationally from Italy and China underscores its commitment to quality and innovation, though it may also introduce supply chain and logistical complexities. Industry analysts have noted that such global sourcing strategies could invite scrutiny regarding cost-effectiveness, particularly when compared to potential local suppliers.
This move comes amid intense competition in the Middle Eastern aviation market, where rival carriers may respond by enhancing their own cabin offerings to maintain competitive pricing and service standards. flyadeal’s Premium Economy product from Geven is anticipated to be compared with established premium offerings from global airlines such as Delta and United, both recognized for their advanced business class cabins.
Leadership Perspectives
Sanjiv Kapoor, Executive Vice President Strategies at Saudia Group and flyadeal Acting CEO, highlighted the airline’s focus on passenger comfort and innovation: “After almost 12 months working behind the scenes on specifications for our new A330s, flyadeal is now embarking on its widebody journey in preparation for entry into service next year. The interiors have been carefully chosen with passenger comfort, space, weight, durability, sustainability, and ambience central to our decisions.”
Alberto Veneruso, Managing Director at Geven, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are thrilled to support flyadeal at such a pivotal moment as they introduce their first Premium Economy product. Being part of this milestone allows us to bring our innovative Comoda AQ seats to passengers who expect comfort, convenience, and quality on every journey.”
Jingfeng Liu, Chairman of Jiatai, remarked, “This collaboration not only validates Jiatai’s product reliability and innovation capabilities but also represents a pivotal step in the international expansion of Chinese aircraft seating brands.”
The seat selection was officially announced at Aircraft Interiors, the industry’s annual showcase of cabin innovation held in Germany. As flyadeal enters the widebody market with dedicated aircraft and a strong emphasis on customer experience, its choices are poised to influence passenger expectations and competitive dynamics throughout the region.
