flyExclusive Receives $30 Million Investment to Expand North Carolina MRO and Pilot Training

flyExclusive Secures $30 Million State Investment to Expand North Carolina MRO and Pilot Training Center
flyExclusive (NYSE American: FLYX) has secured a $30 million investment from the State of North Carolina to expand its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations and establish a new pilot training center at the North Carolina Global TransPark in Kinston. Authorized under Senate Bill 257 (Session Law 2026-41) and signed into law on July 7, 2026, the funding is expected to generate over 100 new aviation jobs in Lenoir County and advance the company’s vertically integrated operating model.
Expansion Plans and Strategic Objectives
The state grant will facilitate the construction of a new maintenance and pilot training complex at flyExclusive’s headquarters, enabling the company to internalize key operational functions that are currently outsourced. While the North Carolina Global TransPark Authority will retain ownership of the facility, flyExclusive will operate it under a long-term lease agreement, contributing substantial private capital alongside the state’s investment. Construction is scheduled to commence promptly.
This expansion represents a strategic move by flyExclusive to gain greater control over its operating infrastructure. The new pilot training center is projected to repatriate more than $5 million annually in training expenditures that are currently paid to out-of-state providers. It will also eliminate the need for over 8,000 hotel room nights each year associated with external training programs. The installation of flight simulators, each valued at approximately $12 million, is anticipated to enhance local property tax revenues.
The expanded MRO facility will significantly increase flyExclusive’s capacity to conduct both scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance at its North Carolina headquarters. The complex will incorporate advanced aircraft painting, avionics, and refurbishment capabilities, reducing reliance on external service providers and positioning the company to pursue additional third-party MRO business. Currently, flyExclusive spends more than $75 million annually on aircraft maintenance, much of which is performed outside the state.
Addressing Industry Challenges and Market Position
By integrating pilot training with expanded maintenance capabilities, flyExclusive aims to tackle two persistent challenges in private aviation: shortages of qualified pilots and limited maintenance capacity. Bringing these functions in-house is expected to enhance operational efficiency, reduce dependence on external labor markets, and support continued fleet growth while lowering long-term costs.
Nonetheless, the company faces potential challenges as it scales operations, including managing increased capacity and ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified pilots to meet rising demand for premium private aviation services. The broader market may also experience intensified competition, as rival private jet operators could accelerate investments in their own MRO and pilot training facilities to maintain competitive positioning.
Recent data suggests that flyExclusive is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for private aviation. As the nation’s largest Part 135 operator by flight hours, the company has reported record growth in Jet Club memberships and ongoing fleet expansion, further underscoring the need for robust internal maintenance and training resources.
Founder and CEO Jim Segrave highlighted that the new facilities will foster the development of the next generation of pilots and create high-quality aviation careers in eastern North Carolina, while reinforcing the company’s longstanding relationship with the state’s aviation hub. This investment follows a series of strategic initiatives undertaken by flyExclusive in 2026 as it continues to expand its national footprint.
