Forthcode Introduces Offline AI Layer for Aviation

Forthcode Launches ANiX: An Offline AI Layer for Aviation
Forthcode, a leading aviation technology company, has announced the forthcoming introduction of ANiX, an artificial intelligence layer specifically designed for the aviation industry. This innovative platform seeks to unify passenger intent, airline knowledge, onboard systems, crew workflows, and commerce into a cohesive, intelligent environment within aircraft cabins. The official unveiling of ANiX is scheduled for next week at ForsaTEK 2026 in Dubai, where Forthcode will showcase its integration with inflight entertainment (IFE) systems.
Addressing Connectivity Challenges at Altitude
Unlike conventional consumer AI platforms that rely heavily on continuous cloud connectivity, ANiX is engineered to meet the distinct challenges of aviation, where aircraft often operate offline or with limited internet access during flight. Its offline-first architecture enables selected AI functionalities to operate effectively at cruising altitudes of 35,000 feet, even when connectivity is intermittent or unavailable. Through ANiX-enabled IFE systems, passengers will be able to engage in conversational interactions with airline content and services, such as requesting vegan meal options, identifying child-friendly movies, or obtaining destination recommendations during stopovers. When supported, these passenger requests can be seamlessly routed to crew applications, onboard inventory, catering, or commerce systems, with all information curated and approved by the airline.
Ajith Balakumar, CEO of Forthcode, highlighted the broader vision behind ANiX, stating, “AI in aviation needs to do much more than answer questions. The real opportunity is connecting passenger intent with the systems, knowledge, and people capable of acting on it. We want to move from AI that talks to AI that understands context and enables action, including in an environment where continuous connectivity cannot be taken for granted.”
Industry Collaborations and Challenges Ahead
The demonstration at ForsaTEK builds upon Forthcode’s collaborations within the Emirates Aviation X Lab ecosystem and partnerships with technology leaders such as Thales and Collins Aerospace, an RTX business. These alliances have concentrated on integrating inflight entertainment, connected-cabin technology, crew applications, catering intelligence, and offline AI capabilities.
Despite its promise, the deployment of an offline AI layer like ANiX presents significant challenges. Ensuring robust boundary behavior and adapting to substantial shifts in user interaction—particularly with features like the minimap and conversational interfaces—will be essential for widespread adoption. Industry observers have expressed some skepticism regarding large language model (LLM)-based AI in aviation, with early feedback describing the new interaction features as somewhat clumsy. This cautious reception may influence how airlines and passengers respond to the evolving technology.
As the competitive landscape intensifies, rival companies are expected either to enhance their own AI offerings or to emphasize the limitations of LLM-based AI in order to differentiate their products. Forthcode’s initial cabin showcase represents the first phase of a broader ambition to establish an intelligence layer that spans passenger experience, crew operations, commerce, and airline operational systems. The future success of offline AI solutions like ANiX will depend on their ability to deliver seamless, context-aware interactions both online and offline.
