Joby and Virgin Atlantic to Bring Electric Air Taxi Service to the UK

Joby and Virgin Atlantic to Launch Electric Air Taxi Service in the UK
Joby Aviation and Virgin Atlantic have formalized a multi-year commercial agreement to introduce electric air taxi services across the United Kingdom. This partnership builds on Joby’s existing exclusivity arrangement with Delta Air Lines and marks a significant step toward integrating innovative urban air mobility solutions into the UK’s transportation network. The agreement, initially announced in 2025, establishes Virgin Atlantic as Joby’s exclusive airline partner for air taxi operations within the UK, complementing Joby’s collaboration with Delta, which holds a 49 percent stake in Virgin Atlantic.
Expanding the Network of Faster, Convenient Travel
The collaboration leverages the shared transatlantic network operated by Delta and Virgin Atlantic, aiming to provide faster and more convenient travel options. Under the terms of the agreement, Virgin Atlantic will incorporate Joby’s air taxi service into its booking platforms, including its mobile app and website. This integration will enable UK travelers to seamlessly book air taxi connections alongside their long-haul flights, enhancing the overall travel experience.
Joby plans to initiate service from Virgin Atlantic’s hubs in London and Manchester, with Manchester serving as a strategic anchor for connections across Northern England. Early routes are expected to include a 15-minute journey from Manchester Airport to Leeds and an eight-minute trip from Heathrow Airport to Central London—routes that currently take over an hour by car. While Joby will maintain full responsibility for aircraft operations, route management, and securing regulatory approvals from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Virgin Atlantic will focus on infrastructure integration and customer acquisition at both hubs. The companies anticipate expanding this network to encompass a broader range of cities and communities throughout the UK over time.
Leadership Perspectives on the Partnership
Corneel Koster, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, described the agreement as an exciting advancement in their partnership with Joby and a pivotal move toward introducing electric air taxi services in the UK. He emphasized the potential to create more seamless journeys for customers, facilitating easier travel between towns, cities, and airports. Koster highlighted Virgin Atlantic’s commitment to innovation and its role in shaping the future of travel while maintaining the premium customer experience for which the airline is known.
JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, praised Virgin Atlantic’s dedication to delivering a world-class customer experience, identifying the airline as the ideal partner to represent Joby in the UK market. He noted the UK as one of the most promising markets for electric air taxi technology and expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to unlock significant opportunities as the service expands to some of the country’s busiest urban centers.
