Pula Enhances Maintenance Capabilities with Acquisition of JMI-Jet Maintenance International
Pula Aviation Services Limited (PASL) has reinforced its presence in the aircraft maintenance sector through the acquisition of JMI-Jet Maintenance International Limited (JMI), a UK-based independent maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider. This strategic move is designed to expand Pula’s service offerings and support its broader ambition to grow within the aviation support services market.
Expanding Service Portfolio and Market Reach
Established in 2018 and headquartered at London Oxford Airport, JMI provides a comprehensive range of services including base maintenance, line support, and aircraft-on-ground (AOG) assistance to operators across the UK and Europe. The company’s expertise spans engine and airframe maintenance, structural repairs, avionics upgrades, interior modifications, and aircraft painting support.
Pula Aviation Services, which already delivers aircraft ownership, management, operations, and special missions support, views the acquisition as a critical enhancement to its maintenance capabilities. Steve Page, CEO of PASL, emphasized that JMI complements the existing maintenance operations at Aircraft Servicing Guernsey (ASG), the parts supply business Airpart, and the group’s special missions aircraft operations. He highlighted that the acquisition broadens Pula’s maintenance approvals, particularly for the Textron jet series and Dassault Falcon aircraft, thereby unlocking new growth opportunities across the group.
Leadership and Strategic Outlook
Ed Griffith, founder of JMI, will continue as Managing Director, steering the company through its next phase of development. Griffith noted that joining a well-established aviation group provides access to increased resources, investment, and operational expertise. He expressed confidence that the partnership will enable JMI to expand its service offerings and maintain the high standard of maintenance support its clients expect.
The acquisition coincides with a period of significant growth in the aviation smart maintenance market, which is forecasted to reach USD 12 billion by 2034. This growth is driven by rising demand for advanced maintenance solutions across the industry. Nonetheless, Pula faces challenges in integrating JMI, including ensuring regulatory compliance, operational alignment, and navigating intensified competition from established players. Industry analysts anticipate that competitors may respond by opening new maintenance bases or broadening their service portfolios to protect market share.
Regional Impact and Future Prospects
Market observers are also closely monitoring JMI’s entry into Zambia, where it becomes the country’s first third-party maintenance provider. This development is expected to have a significant impact on Zambia’s aviation infrastructure and may trigger further strategic initiatives within the region’s aviation sector.
