Safran Aircraft Engines Signs MoU with Uni Tritech for LEAP Engine Components

Safran Aircraft Engines Partners with Uni Tritech to Manufacture LEAP Engine Components in India
Safran Aircraft Engines, a global leader in aircraft propulsion, has formalized a strategic partnership with Uni Tritech, a subsidiary of the Neterwala Group, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to produce aluminium investment cast components for the CFM LEAP engine program. This collaboration will see the manufacturing of high-precision parts at Uni Tritech’s facility in Dharwad, Karnataka, reinforcing Safran’s global supply chain while advancing India’s stature as a significant aerospace manufacturing hub.
Advancing Aerospace Manufacturing Capabilities in India
Under the terms of the agreement, Uni Tritech will be responsible for casting, precision machining, and applying specialized treatments to components for the LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines. All manufacturing processes will comply with rigorous international standards for quality, safety, and certification, ensuring the components meet the exacting demands of next-generation commercial aircraft. The partnership capitalizes on Uni Tritech’s advanced foundry technologies and proprietary metallurgical expertise, positioning the company to fulfill the stringent requirements of modern aerospace applications.
The LEAP engine, developed by CFM International—a 50:50 joint venture between Safran Aircraft Engines of France and GE Aerospace of the United States—powers some of the world’s most advanced single-aisle aircraft. It is widely recognized for setting new benchmarks in fuel efficiency, performance, and durability. The collaboration with Uni Tritech is poised to play a pivotal role as CFM International targets the delivery of over 2,000 LEAP engines in 2026, representing a 15% increase from the previous year. This production ramp-up has contributed to Safran’s double-digit revenue growth and reflects sustained market confidence despite challenges such as rising raw material costs and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Strengthening Supply Chain Resilience and Global Aerospace Leadership
Safran’s Chief Executive Officer, Olivier Andriès, expressed optimism regarding the continued demand and production growth for LEAP engines amid industry-wide supply chain pressures and global uncertainties. GE Aerospace, Safran’s partner in CFM International, has also reported a significant increase in LEAP engine deliveries, addressing durability concerns through aftermarket kits and reinforcing the engine’s reputation for reliability.
Industry experts observe that this MoU not only enhances the resilience and diversity of Safran’s supply chain but also highlights India’s expanding capabilities in high-precision aerospace manufacturing. Kuldeep Bhan, Group President of the Global Metallurgy Business at Neterwala Group, described the partnership as a defining milestone for Uni Tritech, emphasizing the company’s expertise in advanced metallurgy and precision engineering as well as its commitment to supporting global aerospace programs.
Dominique Dupuy, Vice President of Purchasing at Safran Aircraft Engines, underscored the significance of the collaboration, noting that Uni Tritech is Safran’s first aluminium foundry partner in India. He highlighted the initiative as a crucial step in strengthening the resilience and diversity of Safran’s global supply chain, while also showcasing India’s growing role as a key aerospace manufacturing hub. The partnership aims to supply high-precision components that meet the highest industry standards, supporting the rapid expansion of the LEAP engine program.
As the aerospace sector continues to navigate potential disruptions from global conflicts and supply chain constraints, the Safran-Uni Tritech partnership is regarded as a strategic move to ensure the steady supply of critical engine components and to reinforce India’s position within the global aerospace ecosystem.
