Zerolook Raises $1.9 Million to Enhance AI Search Capabilities

Zerolook Secures $1.9 Million to Advance AI-Driven Flight Search Technology
Zerolook, a Swiss startup specializing in flight price prediction, has raised $1.9 million in pre-seed funding to further develop its artificial intelligence-powered search platform. The funding round was led by Playfair, with additional investments from Vento Ventures, TrueSight Ventures, Alpha Ventures, and several angel investors. This capital injection aims to accelerate Zerolook’s efforts to transform how flight prices and itineraries are predicted, addressing inefficiencies in the current airline search ecosystem.
Addressing the Challenges of Flight Search Volumes
The company’s machine learning platform is designed to alleviate the operational burdens faced by airlines and travel agencies due to the high volume of flight searches. Industry data from OAG indicates that up to 20,000 searches are often required to generate a single ticket sale, a number that could increase tenfold as agentic artificial intelligence drives more frequent search activity. This surge in search volume imposes significant costs on airlines and travel agencies, which typically pay technology providers per search and may incur penalties for excessive usage.
Zerolook’s approach leverages historical fare, schedule, and availability data to generate predicted itineraries and prices, accompanied by a confidence score. Simone Lini, co-founder and CEO of Zerolook, highlighted the disconnect between search activity and bookings, noting that “airlines and travel agencies only get paid when someone books, but their technology providers charge them to answer searches and can penalize excessive search volumes.” He emphasized that most searches represent consumers deliberating rather than committing to purchase.
Innovating Price Computation and Industry Impact
Zerolook intends to “compute prices in a different way” from the traditional fare-filing systems that have long dominated the airline industry. By integrating historical data with samples of real-time information, the company aims to provide price predictions that, while not exact, remain within an acceptable range for both consumers and industry partners. This methodology is designed to enable travel agencies and airlines to handle a greater volume of queries more efficiently, potentially unlocking new revenue streams.
The recent funding positions Zerolook to scale its technology and challenge established business models within the travel sector. However, the startup faces formidable competition from well-established players such as Google Flights and Kayak, which benefit from greater resources and market reach. As AI-driven search capabilities become increasingly integral to the industry, these incumbents may respond by enhancing their own technologies or renegotiating terms with airlines to manage rising search-related costs.
Market analysts suggest that Zerolook’s focus on reducing the operational expenses associated with AI-powered flight searches could catalyze broader changes across the travel industry. The company’s expansion may spur innovation and intensify competition, compelling existing players to adapt their strategies in response to evolving consumer expectations and technological progress.
In a recent discussion at Phocuswright Europe, Simone Lini also addressed the wider travel startup ecosystem, the growing influence of artificial intelligence, and the shifting role of intermediaries as potential middle-layer facilitators within the industry.
